Coffee, Community, and Kindness in Athens

During the month of June 2026, we had the privilege of serving with Second Greek Evangelical Church in Athens. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by an incredible church family. One of the staff members, Eve, faithfully guided us throughout the month — encouraging us, leading us through each ministry opportunity, and helping us better understand the community’s needs. Her servant-hearted spirit and commitment to sharing the love of Christ made a lasting impact on both of us.

The moments we will never forget from our time in Athens, Greece, came while serving cups of coffee and hot meals to people in need through Second Greek Evangelical’s feeding ministry. As we welcomed each person through the gates, the space quickly filled with joy. Smiles were exchanged, stories were shared, and people who are often overlooked were reminded that they were seen, valued, and deeply loved. It was in those seemingly simple moments that God showed us how powerful His love can be, despite cultural differences and language barriers.

Ministry at Second Greek Evangelical Church looked a little different each day. One of the many outreach opportunities this extraordinary church offered each week was the shower ministry, where women in need could take showers, do their laundry, be pampered through nail painting and hairstyling, and enjoy fellowship through coloring and conversation.

We also had the opportunity to serve in the coffeehouse ministry, where we welcomed guests with coffee and hot meals. At the same time, they enjoyed a movie, a Bible lesson, and meaningful community.

Another outreach program that we loved being part of was Sfina, where children, teenagers, and college students, many of whom were not regularly involved in church, gathered to play games, participate in a Bible lesson, and build relationships in a welcoming environment that naturally introduced them to the church community.

These experiences reminded us that ministry is often found in listening, building relationships, and simply being present with one another. Every person we met left a lasting impact on our lives. If you ever have the opportunity to go on a mission trip, please say yes — you never know what lasting impact you could have.
